Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/ Forklift Operator)

About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Major duties
Ensure the movement, to include the safe receipt and storage, of ammunition and explosive materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to in the use of equipment. Organize items in the storage area for maximum convenience of handling and ease of movement. Assure ammunition is loaded by class in accordance with loading and storage charges per regulations. Transport materials from receiving areas to storage or from storage areas to appropriate office.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/ Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I can 1) Verify accuracy of supplies received and reporting discrepancies; 2) Store, issue, and ship various items such as ammunition; and 3) Account for shipments received of various items to include small arms ammunition and other ammunition items. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Efforts: Incumbent assignments may require standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Individually required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds which may be too small to be handled by two persons. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in temperatures ranging from hot to extremely cold. The work may be dusty, dirty and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, explosions, fire or even death. Safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes and gloves are required as well as more specialized equipment for hazardous materials including goggles and coveralls.
