What you'd do
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The primary purpose of the position is to perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols on the military installation.
Major duties
Exercise exclusive law enforcement jurisdiction responsible for the, apprehension or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States. Serve as a police patrol officer enforcing Federal criminal laws and the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) involving persons and property. Protect government property, materials and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage and espionage. Detain or arrest suspected or guilty persons. Collect and protect evidence, witnesses, victims, etc. Arrest persons committing or suspected of committing crimes on the installation. Patrol assigned area by vehicle or on foot to preserve the peace, prevent crime, and protect lives and property.
What you need to qualify
This is a Term position NOT TO EXCEED (NTE) 5 years and may be extended up to a total of eight years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. For GS-7: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Performing law enforcement investigation in accordance with established policies and procedures; 2) Collecting/preserving evidence for an investigation; and 3) Preparing statements concerning incidents such as accidents or law violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
