Laundry Worker
What you'd do
This position performs as a Laundry Worker within the Environmental Management Service (EMS). He/she works at Martinez, California location of the VA Northern California Health Care System (VA NCHCS) and is responsible for performing all textile duties and tasks assigned to provide clean and disinfected linens to all areas within the healthcare system.
Major duties
Major Duties include: Responsible for maintaining the linen room and any pre-designated linen rooms. Accurately and efficiently loads and unloads linen carts, utilizing linen that has been in storage the longest. Utilizes proper technique in distributing and picking up linen to prevent cross contamination Issues, marks, repairs and salvages surgical linen, drapes, pillows, employee uniforms, cubical and shower curtains Sorts uniform apparel, using assigned numbers to document, and forwards the uniforms to the consolidated laundry facility for laundering Receives, stores, inventories and distributes linen to the facility daily. Adjusts deliveries to meet the changing needs of the facility. Weighs and maintains daily records, in pounds, to ensure the linen in each unit are accounted for properly. Responsible for the security of the linen keys assigned and must return them to the supervisor at the end of the shift. Work Schedule: Varied Tours. Monday - Friday, Sun-Sat/Weekends and or Holidays Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD00645-A Physical Requirements: Incumbents work tasks need continuous walking, standing, stooping, lifting, reaching and bending. Continuous physical effort is often needed for the manual tasks. Incumbent must be physically able to use power equipment for extended periods of time. Incumbent must be able to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 65 pounds, and occasionally objects weighing more than 65 pounds. Incumbent pushes and guides linen carts weighing up to 1,000 pounds as a normal part of the duties performed in the job. Incumbent needs a certain amount of quickness in hand and arm movements to meet production standards. Most of the job requires frequent lifting of bundles weighing up to 25 pounds. The duties require reasonable dexterity, hand, foot/eye coordination, and concentration. When collecting trash incumbent must follow specific safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment including face shields, safety goggles, protective clothing, gloves, etc. Working Conditions: Work is normally performed inside where light and ventilation are optimum. Incumbent will be assigned to work in a variety of areas that require being alert and aware of conditions in environment that could pose a risk if proper precautions are not followed. Incumbent may be assigned to clean exterior decks, stairwells, and secured storage areas. The incumbent is exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
