Health Technician (Paramedic)
What you'd do
This position serves as a Paramedic at the Cheyenne River Service Unit. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Major duties
Performs Paramedic duties by identifying and treating trauma and/or medical emergencies using knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties using acquired knowledge of the major body systems to provide patient care and ensure appropriate patient handling. Assists with moving, lifting, and carrying patients to emergency vehicles and appropriate treatment facility. Performs safety and maintenance inspection on emergency and patient transport vehicles and equipment. Independently conducts a complete assessment using advance knowledge of topographic anatomy. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): General Schedule Qualifications Link: Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 (opm.gov) Individual Occupational Requirements: Specialized Experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. OR For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently conducts a complete assessment, using knowledge of topographic anatomy, major body systems, emergency medicine techniques, ability to sufficiently understand the legal considerations of emergency care. OR Successful completion of 6 months (9 Semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Identifies and treats trauma/medical emergencies using advanced knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques, employee identifies the signs and symptoms of life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical trauma injuries. OR Successful completion of 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Applicants must possess either a current National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification or a current paramedic license issued by any U.S. state or territory and be eligible for licensure by the South Dakota Board of Osteopathic and Medical Examiners. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
