This position is located in the Human Capital, Office of the Chief Medical Officer branch. The incumbent serves as the Supervisory Occupational Health Nurse for the law enforcement team, responsible for fitness-for-duty determinations and medical support for law enforcement personnel across the agency.
Major duties
This Supervisory Occupational Health Nurse position is located located in the Human Capital, Office of the Chief Medical Officer branch, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to: Provide expert consultative advice, render decisions and interprets complex medical guidelines to assess employee and/or applicant ability to perform job related functions based on any medical/physical conditions presented by the employee/applicant. Applies Agency medical evaluation methods and procedures, case management, and medical records protocols to assess employee and candidate medical records and information to make medical determinations for employees' fitness for duty. Provides expert advice, mentoring and direction on program requirements and procedures. Plans and conducts program reviews to evaluate effectiveness and compliance with applicable regulations and directives. Serves as technical expert for coalescing medical interpretations with position specific essential job functions to determine underlying correlation(s) between recognized medical conditions and safe and effective job performance. Exercises a full range of supervisory and personnel management authorities and responsibilities in directing work of subordinate staff. Coordinates and evaluates subordinates' work to assure balanced workload and timely responses to assigned actions.
What you need to qualify
In addition to the mandatory license and education described below under Education Requirements, you must meet the following specialized experience to be considered qualified for the position: To qualify for the SV-J Pay Band (equivalent to GS-14), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-J or GS-14 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience providing occupational health support to law enforcement personnel, including medical clearances and work restrictions. Experience leading a team of nurses and administrative personnel. Experience coordinating with healthcare professionals, human resources staff and management officials in order to develop solutions to employees with medical conditions that could interfere with their job functions. Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
