Electronics Mechanic (Fire & Electronics)
What you'd do
This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facility Operations Division, Fire Electronics Branch. The Electronics Mechanic (Fire & Electronics) is responsible for performing journey level Fire Protection System equipment installation, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs.
Major duties
Tour of Duty: Sunday through Friday 10:00 P.M. – 6:30 A.M. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. The individual selected for this position will: Installs or assists contractors to install new systems or upgrades of existing fire protection devices and systems. Installs new devices and/or relocates existing devices in conduit or flexible raceways as applicable. Preserves, upkeeps, corrects and regulates mechanisms and assemblies of the numerous systems that may be assigned. Assists with the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of low voltage wiring associated with electronically controlled door hardware being operated by the fire alarm system. Provides technical support to Fire Protection Engineers and other Superintendent's office staff in solving problems/breakdowns found in test programs. Isolates specific faults in the automated test apparatuses or the unit under test and completes the required repairs. Performs bench and field tests and prepares standard performance reports. Performs connection, test and restoration work on fire protection systems and/or earlier assigned systems requiring major adjustments. Troubleshoots the cause of operational problems on novel or improved systems when technical specifications are inadequate. Identifies problems in designs and guidelines. Responds to emergency calls to return alarm systems to an on-line status as quickly as possible. Utilizes a voltmeter, amp meter, wattmeter, ohmmeter, etc. to test circuits and equipment for ground faults or open circuits. Install new circuits and communication loop routes and connections. Assists contractors in identifying and finding circuitry. Performs other related duties as assigned.
