The Miami VA Healthcare System's Nursing Service is seeking a Post Baccalaureate Nurse Resident (PBNR). Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
Major duties
This is an intensive 12-month residency program. The Post Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PBRNR) is expected to be onsite as scheduled and to perform activities related to the residency program as delineated to meet the goals and objectives of the program. The site of the program is the Miami VA Healthcare System which includes the medical center, community living center and outpatient clinics operated by the facility. The Post Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PBRNR) program assists the post-graduate RN in the transition from academia to a complex practice environment. The PBRNR Program consists of a comprehensive 12- month curriculum built upon standards related to clinical, leadership, and professional dimensions. Additionally, Veteran-centric content is reviewed during the PBRNR Program. The program may contain both didactic and experiential learning components. Each post-graduate RN is assigned a Preceptor who is an experienced RN who has completed preceptor training. The 12-month PBRNR program consists of a series of learning lessons, and work experiences, focused on direct patient care. The program is directed by the PBRN Program Director who will facilitate the program and serve as valuable resource for the new RN, enhancing the traditional preceptor model. The program is centered around development of the professional nursing role, Veteran patient outcomes, and leadership capability through structured classes, and precepted clinical experiences. These learning experiences will equip the preceptees skill needed in the development of patient teaching tools, and evidence-based practice. The resident is provided with comprehensive classes to facilitate skills in caring for the unique population of the American military Veteran across the lifespan while acknowledging diverse cultural backgrounds characteristic of this population. The residency program was developed to support the new nursing graduate during the first year of practice in an acute and long-term care hospital setting. The graduate nurse will participate in a professional role and clinical nursing program under the guidance of a qualified preceptor. Accrual of paid Sick and Annual leave: Sick Leave and Annual Leave earned every 2 weeks Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Full time, Duty hours 0730-1600, Monday - Friday
What you need to qualify
Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.) Preferred experience: New graduate BSN First licensed RN role: no previous RN work experience and graduated within one year of RN program. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires moderate lifting up to 44 lbs., carrying objects up to 15 lbs., frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands and legs, use of cranes and motor vehicles, walking & standing up to 8 hours, bending and climbing and able to hear whisper. The incumbent must be physically, emotionally and mentally stable in order to efficiently perform the essential functions of this position without hazard to themselves or others.
