Major duties
Counsel military personnel from all branches of the uniformed services, retirees, and the families of those being processed through the Army Physical Disability Evaluation System (DES) on their rights, benefits, privileges, or obligations. Directly, and through subordinate supervisors, supervises administrative and medical civilian personnel. Establish priorities and exercises significant responsibilities in dealing with high-ranking officials of other divisions and units or advising executive management officials of higher rank. Evaluate subordinate supervisors and serves as the reviewing official on evaluations of nonsupervisory employees rated by subordinate supervisors. Refer personnel to appropriate agencies to obtain counseling/guidance on benefits provided by the Department of Labor, Social Security Administration and Veterans Affairs (VA). Ensure the Soldier understands his obligations to respond to the findings of the Informal/Formal Board within the prescribed time frame.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes counseling, data collection, medical coordination, and procedural work related to Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) processing and Temporary Disability Retired List (TDRL) reevaluations; oversee work to be performed thru subordinate lead specialists of a staff of two or more, sets and adjust priorities, and oversee work of multi-sections/units for completion. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
