Supervisory Business Manager
What you'd do
The Supervisory Business Manager has responsibility for a wide range of administrative functions relating to the Anesthesia Service. The incumbent has full administrative management and responsibility for a wide range of functional program staff that are assigned, matrixes, or deployed to the Anesthesia Service. The incumbent is expected to have a broad knowledge of healthcare management systems and principles relating to these areas.
Major duties
Duties include: Responsible for providing input into strategic planning and direction, budgetary oversight, and the administrative management structure to support a comprehensive patient care delivery system for Anesthesia, Pain, and Critical Care. Responsible for the Anesthesia Service resource management and allocation, utilization and case management, information management, medical records management, and establishing and implementing performance measures to provide ongoing assessments of service quality, administrative proficiency, and cost effectiveness. Responsible for providing analysis and interpreting clinical performance measures pertaining to the wide array of clinical activities provided throughout the Service. Analysis and recommendations include the outpatient clinics, inpatient care, procedures, compliance, quality management, physician performance, and budget as well as other information requested from leadership (VA Central Office, Office of the Inspector General, VISN, Director's office, or Chief of Staff). Serves as an expert for matters related to data capture and the use of spreadsheets and graphical software to help organize, analyze, and apply these data for managerial and clinical purposes. Makes decisions/determinations based on modem healthcare practice within the framework of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and community standards. Other duties as assigned. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/10/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to knowledge of/experience with: A range of qualitative and quantitative methods of assessing and improving programs Methods used to implement complex management processes and systems Administrative policies, regulations, directives, and principles used to administer VHA Healthcare programs Data management techniques Relationships between different VHA healthcare programs. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although may require some walking, standing, stretching and carrying light objects such as files, binders, books, or papers. Work also requires spending time performing keyboarding duties and speaking on the phone for extended periods of time.
