This position is within the Business Office of the Mid-Atlantic Consolidated Patients Accounts Center located in Asheville, North Carolina.

Major duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-6. At the GS-5 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-6. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Duties include but may not be limited to: Verification of Veterans' insurance coverage for inpatient and outpatient services. Documents pre-admission requirements. Responsible for all reimbursable billing activities to include billing consideration of professional and facility services. Validates Claims for billing purposes. Third party collections from insurance companies. Verifies accuracy of payments, resolves problems and discrepancies and closes out accounts. Responds to questions and inquiries from veterans and insurance companies. Explains eligibility and entitlements to veterans. Audits accounts, insuring payments recovered by insurance carrier are posted in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Telework: This position may be authorized for telework. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position you must meet one of the requirements listed below. GS 5: Specialized Experience: Must possess one (1) one or more years of specialized experience equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Medical Reimbursement Technician position. To be creditable, the experience must have been equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes following instructions about timeliness, objectives and relative priorities for doing administrative work; communicating with other staff as necessary to discuss administrative concerns; reviewing and determining the appropriateness of administrative data. OR GS 5: Education: MUST possess four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Transcripts Required.) OR GS 5: COMBINATION of EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Possess equivalent combinations of experience and education as described above to fully meet the requirements of this position. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR GS 6: Specialized Experience: MUST possess one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Medical Reimbursement Technician position? To be creditable, the experience must have been equivalent to the GS-05 in Federal service. Specialized experience includes following instructions about timeliness, objectives, and relative priorities for doing administrative work; communicating with other staff as necessary to discuss administrative concerns; reviewing and determining the appropriateness of administrative data; verifying claims for billing purposes ensuring eligibility and referring questionable coding for review; and interpreting insurance policies and requirements for billing.
