Personnel Security Specialist
What you'd do
This Position is located in the Adjudications Division, Office of Personnel Security and Suitability (DS/SI/PSS), Diplomatic Security Service, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, U.S. Department of State. PSS is responsible for determining the initial and continuing eligibility of Department personnel for access to classified National Security Information and Sensitive but Unclassified (SBU) information and suitability for Federal employment. Major duties
Conducts and evaluates background investigations for compliance with established standards and adjudicative criteria, ensuring investigative sufficiency and preparing recommendations for suitability and security determinations. Reviews sensitive case information to identify gaps or discrepancies in investigative coverage, and recommends additional investigative actions to resolve unresolved issues and ensure complete, accurate case adjudication. Reviews high-profile and sensitive clearance cases, assessing potential security concerns and coordinating referrals for senior-level review and concurrence. Plans and delivers training programs, conducts operational analyses, and develops recommendations to improve personnel security processes, workforce capability, and organizational effectiveness.
What you need to qualify
Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience evaluating the results of background investigations for compliance with prescribed standards and criteria. Experience managing the investigative leads assignment process, ensuring that investigative suspense dates are met and completed reports comply with policy. Experience preparing evaluations of investigations against national level criteria for investigative sufficiency and for suitability/security adjudication. There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
