About the Position: This position is located in the Medicine Neurology Service Department at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.
Major duties
Conduct electroencephalograms (EEG) on patients varying in age from birth to geriatric in the Laboratory and/or in the wards utilizing EEG and Electromyographic equipment. Explain procedures, position the patient to insure patient comfort for optimal recording of the EEG. Employ sterile techniques when conducting EEG procedures in all areas of the hospital. Evaluate the technical capability and potential for clinical applications of equipment installed or being considered for purchase and conducts in-service training on new procedures or new equipment. Troubleshoot during the performance of evoked potentials test to detect artifacts or other technical problems relating to recording of cortical wave forms Answer telephone; schedule appointments and make preparations for emergencies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Medical Instrument Technician (EEG): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience conducting electroencephalographic (EEG) examinations, operating and monitoring electroencephalographic (EEG) equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as EEG Technology. OR Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. **A Certificate as a Registered Electroencephalographic (EEG) is highly desired but not required**
