What you'd do
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Major duties
Troubleshoot complex refrigeration, dehumidification, and air conditioning systems. Overhaul critical mechanical mechanisms including compressors, pumps, evaporators, and condensers to restore operational integrity. Calibrate modulating thermostatic, pneumatic, and electronic control valves to eliminate temperature fluctuations during system cycling. Assemble refrigerant lines and copper fittings utilizing professional welding, brazing, soldering, and flaring techniques. Detect electrical faults in motors, wiring, and circuits starting from the primary electrical disconnect throughout the system.

This announcement is a Direct Hire solicitation. Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC ~ without more than normal supervision. Where Ability to do the common or complex tasks is prime. I have the ability to perform common AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC duties which include replacing worn or defective parts such as compressors, pistons, bearings, and controls; inspecting electrical motors for malfunctions; and replacing electrical components and fuses. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Physical requirements include prolonged standing, moderate walking, repeated bending, climbing, overhead work, working in cramped positions, lifting, pulling and pushing weights up to 100 pounds. Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) and good hearing (with or without a hearing aid) required. Must wear respirator when applying cleaning solvents to cooling tower. WORKING CONDITIONS Works inside and outside, subject to rapid changes in temperature due to nature of work. Hazards include danger from gas fumes, falls, electric shock and burns, cuts and bruises.
