What you'd do
The incumbent of this position performs as a Motor Vehicle Operator in an established Valet Parking program. The work performed includes meeting/greeting patients/visitors, issuing parking valet parking tickets, operating automatic and standard transmission vehicles, organization of customer keys and parking tickets throughout the work day.
Major duties
Incumbent operates gas and diesel engine vehicles within valet parking designated areas, vehicles having an approximate gross weight of up to 10,000 pounds. Maintains accountability of customers' vehicle keys and records of vehicles and vehicle locations. Cleans and fuels the Valet Parking assigned vehicle and reports any mechanical deficiencies to the Motor Pool. Incumbent performs customer service functions and interacts with other VA staff members. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have basic skills for starting, stopping, backing, and driving the vehicle. Must be knowledgeable of the VA traffic rules and regulations. Must possess good oral communication and customer service skills. Must be able to operate two-way radios to receive and transmit messages. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/05/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Incumbent exerts light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate vehicle hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort is required to assist disabled and elderly customers in and out of vehicles and in the loading/unloading of wheelchairs into customer vehicles. Walks several miles throughout the course of a workday and stands for long periods of time. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Incumbent drives in all types of traffic and weather conditions.
