You will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator at North Cascades National Park in Stehekin, WA. Please visit find a park for additional park information. This is a Full-time Term (NTE 4yrs) Competitive appointment.
Major duties
At the full performance level (WG-07) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Operates platform trucks, van trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight or more than 26,000 pound and up to 32,000 pounds. Removes snow from parking areas using loader, grader, and rotary plow. Handles garbage and operates garbage compacting equipment. Transports passengers, supplies, materials or equipment and tools and tows various trailers and equipment. Performs general maintenance on motor vehicles. Performs a variety of manual labor tasks associated with roads operations such as handling asphalt by shovel and rake and cleaning ditch lines and culverts, shoveling snow, roadside brushing, garbage collection, striping and traffic flagging. Location information: Stehekin is a remote mountain community located at 1100' in north-central Washington, at the north end of 50-mile long Lake Chelan. Access is by daily passenger ferry, private aircraft (no scheduled service), or hiking (summer only, shortest route is 17 miles). Ferries to Stehekin from Chelan range from $50 - $86 round trip. No roads lead into Stehekin, but an interior road allows barged-in vehicles and bicycles. A concession operation consists of a lodge, cabins, convenience store, and restaurant. A post office, market garden, dude ranch, bakery, and various tourist oriented businesses such as bicycle rental can be found in the town of Stehekin. Most businesses shut down in the winter months. Shopping, doctors, hospital and other services are not available in Stehekin but are available in Chelan. Larger shopping centers and hospitals are available in Wenatchee, WA, 43 miles from the ferry landing. Groceries and other supplies are ordered by email and shipped on the ferry at the employee's expense. Emergency medical transport is by boat or helicopter and weather dependent. Recreation consists of hiking, climbing, fishing, biking, boating and craft/hobby activities. No television, cell service, landline phone, or internet is available except by privately purchased satellite services. However, one pay phone is available at the Stehekin Landing, and satellite internet is available in park housing at your own cost. The community has approximately 100 year-round residents with a one room K-8 school. Summers are warm and dry, and winters average 120 inches of snow. Driving time to Seattle or Spokane is three hours from the other end of the lake in Chelan. For more information on Stehekin see link in Additional Information section below. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Operation of Motor Vehicles Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability to Operate Safely (Non-motor Vehicles) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Reliability and Dependability Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Related to Mobile Equipment Operation) Your resume must clearly show that you are able to perform custodial services and motor vehicle operations with full supervision such as: Ability to perform common tasks as a motor vehicle operator. Operate some types of gasoline or diesel-powered heavy equipment having a GVW of 26,001 pounds or more with air braking systems in all types of weather and road conditions. Tasks assigned to me are inspected upon completion by my work leader or supervisor for conformance to requirements. Examples include operating front-end loaders, dump trucks with snowplows, rubber-tired backhoes, liquid asphalt distributors, steel faced vibratory rollers, front loader style trash compactor trucks, and tractors with mowing attachments. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
