These positions are in the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics, Existing Chemicals Risk Management Division. About : Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to one of the duty stations stated in this announcement on a regular basis (location TBD after candidate selected).
Major duties
You will: Conduct scientific evaluation and analyses for Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) risk-management rulemaking. Represent the Agency in internal and external forums, serving as an expert and primary scientific speaker on topics related to risk management. Serve as a senior scientific advisor to Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) senior management for program strategy and resolution of complex issues. Independently initiate, plan, and conduct assessments of the implication of technological alternatives that affect the release or exposure of hazardous chemicals. Prepare and deliver briefings for high level Agency officials concerning major program issues. You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements. One or more positions may be filled (in the organization advertised and/or in other organizations), if appropriate to the position.

NOTE: You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level defined as conducting or leading scientific analyses to support chemical risk-management decisions under TSCA or a comparable environmental statute; providing technical or science policy expertise to inform regulatory or non-regulatory actions; and communicating scientific concepts to a variety of audiences. You will need the following competencies in order to perform the duties of this position successfully: Planning and Evaluating Scientific Research* Technical Knowledge (Related to Position)* Oral Communication Critical Thinking* Problem Solving Written Communication *You will be evaluated on these critical competencies.
