What you'd do

About the Position: Serves as a Medical Evaluation Board Assistant within a Medical Treatment Facility, responsible for coordinating and carrying out the administrative functions that support the Medical Evaluation Board process.

Major duties

Perform administrative processing, coordination, and tracking of all actions required for Soldiers undergoing evaluation through the Army Disability Evaluation System. Ensure Soldiers understand the impact of their written statements and verifies that symptoms are described accurately and completely. Coordinate with physicians, physician assistants, and specialty clinics to ensure all abnormal findings are evaluated and all required consults are completed. Use various software programs to create database files, retrieve reports and rosters, prepare reports, and develop forms. Request medical records and searches for misplaced records to ensure availability for patient care and MEB processing. Coordinate travel arrangements, services, and medical appointments for patients and their Family members traveling from distant locations for MEB related care.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing an automated medical database, researching established policies, and procedures; providing guidance related to medical case process; AND preparing routine correspondence, processing mail, and updating tracking logs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
