Government Information Specialist
What you'd do
The Assistant Secretary for Veteran's Employment and Training (OASVET) serve as the principal adviser to the Secretary of Labor on veteran's employment issues, formulates, and implements all Departmental policies and programs designed to provide such veteran's employment and training services; protect and advance reemployment rights of veterans and members of the Armed Forces and their military spouses.
Major duties
The duties described below are at the full performance level (GS-12). Incumbents hired at the GS-9 or GS-11 grade level will serve in a developmental capacity, where the incumbent works under closer supervision while continuing to exercise supervisory and managerial authority assigned for the position. - Serves as an Agency expert for Records management and administering the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) programs dispersed nationwide - Advise agency management and ensure compliance with Federal laws governing the flow of information. - Develops and implements Departmental strategies, plans, standards, and procedures to achieve Federal and/or Departmental objectives for providing the public and other government agencies with the most effective, reliable and consistent access to appropriate records and Departmental information. - Research, analyzes, and develops solutions for existing and potential problems within a variety of program areas to include Records Management and FOIA program. - Applies advanced project management principles to lead and oversee complex records management and FOIA activities involving multiple stakeholders, program offices, or organizational components.
What you need to qualify
This is a career ladder progression position; the incumbent will serve in a developmental capacity, wherein the work is less complex in nature and the supervisor or a senior level employee provides specific instruction and guidance. For the GS-09 level: Specialized experience includes all of the following: Experience assisting in the administration, analysis, and management of government records and information or FOIA requests. Experience researching and preparing responses to requests for release of information and ensuring compliance with federal laws and agency policies governing the flow of information OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. OR LL.B or J.D., if related OR Combination of Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of education and experience listed above; the total percentage must equal at least 100%. For the GS-11: Specialized experience includes all of the following: Experience assisting in the administration, analysis, and management of government records and information or FOIA requests. Experience researching and preparing responses to requests for release of information and ensuring compliance with federal laws and agency policies governing the flow of information. Experience recommending procedural changes to address unique or complex requests for information. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. OR Combination of Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of education and experience listed above; the total percentage must equal at least 100%. For the GS-12: Specialized experience includes all of the following: Experience researching, analyzing, and developing solutions for existing and potential problems within a variety of program areas to include Records Management and FOIA programs; Experience applying advanced project management principles to lead and oversee complex records management and FOIA activities involving multiple stakeholders, program offices, or organizational components; Experience directing workload planning, prioritization, and tracking activities to ensure timely completion of projects in compliance with federal records management regulations, FOIA requirements, or agency policies.
