MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER
What you'd do
This solicitation is utilizing the Direct Hire Authority (DHA) for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: You will lead a crew or personally carry out maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of trades and crafts.
Major duties
You will function as a working leader (usually over three to seven employees) while performing nonsupervisory duties of the same type as those being led. Use skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Apply coatings by any of the accepted methods of the trade using coating materials that are prepared in a special as well as common ways, and by applying coating techniques that assure surfaces have a smooth-textured and decorative appearance. Maintain, repair, or construct a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone, and other related materials. Lay whole brick, block, and stone according to accepted trade practices. Construct, maintain, and repair roads, parking areas, walkways, drainage ditches, basins, curbs, etc. Remove locking devices from doors, desks, etc. Remove broken keys from keyways, disassemble items and perform visual checks to detect worn and damaged parts. Occasionally operate five and ten ton dump trucks and other heavy equipment as required. May operate pick-up trucks and passenger vehicles. Small Craft Operating: On a regular and recurring basis, operate Class 2 39' boat when operating "For Hire" on navigable waters which are regulated by the Coast Guard, requiring a 25 Ton Master License Near Coastal. Use a truck to pull a boat. Deployable Tactical Operations System (DTOS) vehicles stored at Bryte Yard may also be driven.
What you need to qualify
Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead workers performing the full range of carpentry, painting, masonry, asphalt work, locksmithing, motor vehicle operating, small craft operating, and engineering equipment operating. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials up to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms. Incumbent is required to maintain confined space proficiency and perform confined space entry certification. Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. May be required to wear protective clothing and safety equipment. When operating engineering equipment, is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. Incumbent must be physically able to readily access and exit manholes with diameters as small as 20".
