This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Readiness and Response, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. This announcement will close at 11:59 PM, on the day that 50 applications have been received or on the closing date, whichever is first.

Major duties

As an Emergency Management Specialist you will: Serve as a CDC Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Duty Officer by applying critical thinking and customer service skills to manage information flow, triage inquiries, support National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) leadership and SMEs during EOC activations, exercises, and emergency responses, while maintaining situational awareness and producing operational information products. Coordinate CDC Incident Management System activations and supports all-hazards public health preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities by monitoring emergency operations, tracking mission assignments, reviewing Incident Action Plans, and providing technical assistance to domestic and international partners. Develop, update, and evaluate emergency management and Continuity of Operations (COOP) plans; coordinates with internal and external stakeholders; participates in exercises, after-action reviews, corrective action programs, and training to improve organizational preparedness and response capabilities. Provide technical advice and emergency management support to governmental and non-governmental partners; evaluates emergency management programs, recommends operational improvements, resolves complex response issues, and coordinates interagency emergency management activities involving domestic and international stakeholders.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following: Applying critical thinking and customer service skills to support information management, coordination, and communication during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, exercises, or emergency responses in support of Incident Management System (IMS) leadership and/or Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Delivering all-hazards support for public health preparedness, response, and/or recovery activities associated with domestic and/or international emergencies, including monitoring, analyzing, and/or reporting operational information to support situational awareness and decision-making. Coordinating with internal/external stakeholders and contributing to the development, evaluation, and improvement of emergency management plans, procedures, programs, after-action reviews, and/or corrective action activities. Providing advisory services, identifying, and resolving complex problems on a broad range of emergency response and preparedness activities. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
