Senior Special Counsel - Private Funds Fellow
What you'd do
The Division of Investment Management is seeking a SEC Fellow-Attorney Adviser (Senior Special Counsel-Private Funds Fellow). As Senior Special Counsel-Private Funds Fellow, you will serve in the Investment Adviser Regulation Office. Your role will be to help advance high priority private fund policy initiatives, deliver expert legal and regulatory analysis, develop recommendations, coordinate across the Commission and federal agencies, and advise leadership on significant regulatory matters.
Major duties
In this role as a Senior Special Counsel-Private Funds Fellow, you will be responsible for: Advising and leading teams through all stages of the rulemaking process, including policy development, producing proposing or adopting releases and related materials, and engaging with senior management in the Division and the Commissioners and their staff, as well as with staff of other Commission divisions and other federal agencies; Autonomously handling a number of rulemaking projects and serve as a subject matter expert with respect to private funds in the Division and the Commission, including with Enforcement, Examinations, Trading & Markets, Corporation Finance, and the Office of International Affairs; and Consulting and coordinating regulatory policy and private fund industry practices with staff across the Division and throughout the Commission and other federal agencies and intergovernmental working groups, as well as the public and industry representatives.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT: J.D. or LL.B. degree --AND-- Active membership of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. (Note: proof of bar membership will be required before entry on duty. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement. SK-16: Applicant must have four years of post J.D. work experience independently identifying legal issues, providing legal analyses, providing legal solutions/recommendations, and preparing legal documents, such as contracts, dispositions, pleading, and motions, which also includes at least three years: Providing advice on issues and policies related to Federal securities laws, statutes, rules and regulations affecting private funds and Conducting reviews and analysis of the most complex issues to assure legal adequacy, sufficiency, soundness of action recommended or taken.
