About the Position: This position is located at 673rd Medical Group, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.

Major duties

Plan, organize, and manage the local hospital housekeeping program. Ensure maintenance of bacteriological and visual cleanliness in assigned areas of the hospital and outlying wards and clinics, including administrative areas and waiting rooms. Determine short range, intermediate and long-range goals and policies in conjunction with higher management and/or appropriate hospital committees. Establish standards of sanitation for cleaning methods for frequency of operations and utilization of equipment. Develop inspection schedules, technical inspection procedures and instructions regarding the use and care of housekeeping equipment. Ensure cleaning methods are changed to curb any infection trends, applying a working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental infection control. Perform duties as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the regulated medical waste contract and hospital linen service.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing waste management or recycling programs within a medical facility; coordinating with contracted services to provide hospital housekeeping services; and evaluating medical housekeeping programs to ensure compliance with regulations and policies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration, public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
