Solution Platform Architect
What you'd do
This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Information Technology (OIT), Infrastructure and User Services Group (IUSG). As a Solution Platform Architect, GS-2210-15, you will serve as the senior technical authority and strategic architect within the organization.
Major duties
Serve as the principal modernization advisor to CMS leadership, leading cross-functional teams of architects, engineers, and stakeholders to guide technology investments that support mission-critical operations. Design CMS-wide modernization roadmaps and migration frameworks that align with federal mandates. Direct the transformation of CMS legacy and mainframe systems to cloud-native, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments by developing and executing modernization strategies that include rehosting, re-platforming, and re-architecting applications. Create and maintain enterprise standards, governance models, and modernization playbooks that ensure consistent implementation of modernization projects, operational compliance, and effective technology adoption across CMS.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; AND 4. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND In order to qualify for the GS-15, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: 1) Managing enterprise data center projects to support an organization's modernization of mainframe systems or databases into cloud environments; 2) Designing enterprise architecture solutions to migrate legacy systems into cloud-based applications; 3) Collaborating with inter-agency working groups and industry partnerships to advance mission-critical digital modernization initiatives; AND 4) Providing technical support for key infrastructure services across multiple cloud platforms to ensure operational continuity. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
