About the Position: This position is located at 2nd Medical Group Clinic Barksdale AFB, Louisiana.
Major duties
Serve as a Medical Records Technician within the Correspondence Section to process requests for patient medical information from patients, their authorized representative, and other third parties. Maintain control logs for tracking status of requests and other pertinent information. Research medical record system to include, but not limited to outpatient, mental health, social work services, family advocacy program, radiology, and pathology records for specific medical information. Prepare response to inquiry and ensures only relevant factual information is released. Communicate both orally and in writing in order to elicit information from patients. Operate various office machines such as a facsimile (FAX), copier, and computer terminal in order to reproduce, transmit, obtain and produce materials in the proper format. Protect confidential patient medical information in order to protect the patients right to privacy about medical conditions.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements for Medical Records Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing various office automation systems to generate data and reports; maintaining records and files of personnel; and assisting patients with medical records and forms. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks.
