This vacancy is for a GS - 0029 - 7, Environmental Protection Assistant located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE BORINQUEN FACILITIES ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT -F in AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico.
Major duties
You will serve as a Environmental Protection Assistant and be responsible for ensuring strict environmental compliance, proactive prevention of pollution and future environmental damage, remediation of past environmental damage, tracking of environmental liabilities, and preparation for and response to accidental environmental damage. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Develop and maintain environmental emergency preparedness plans to ensure rapid response to hazardous material spills and incidents. Conducting site inspections of facilities to identify, mitigate potential environmental hazards and taking samples for lab analysis Oversee the lifecycle of facility operating permits and pollution prevention initiatives Ensure full compliance with federal and local regulations regarding hazardous and universal waste management Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position. Ability to obtain Federal and Puerto Rico training and certification for drinking water testing requirements within the first year and maintain certification annually. What you need to qualify
To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Ensuring all inspections, monitoring, record keeping, and reporting requirement of environmental permits are done in a timely manner per instructions. Providing various administrative and technical functions to ensure hazardous and universal wastes are being managed in strict accordance with the applicable requirements of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Ensuring hazardous waste storage facilities/areas, satellite accumulations areas, and all other waste accumulation areas/locations are being managed in accordance with established procedures and protocols Maintaining situational awareness of facilities, operations, and activities where environmental hazards/environment risk may be present or releases to the environment could occur NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position.
