Medical Instrument Technician (Echocardiograph)
What you'd do
About the Position: Serve as a Medical Instrument Technician (Echocardiograph) with the Department of War at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, NC. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Major duties
Perform diagnostic echocardiography examinations using two-dimensional (2D), M-mode, pulse wave, continuous wave, and color Doppler ultrasound techniques. Prepare and position patients, review pertinent medical history, and explain examination procedures to ensure quality diagnostic studies. Operate and adjust ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic-quality cardiac images and adapt imaging techniques for technically difficult examinations. Identify, document, and report abnormal cardiac structures, blood flow patterns, and other significant findings to the interpreting physician. Monitor patients throughout examinations, recognize changes in clinical condition, and respond appropriately to emergent situations. Maintain examination records, ensure proper operation of echocardiography equipment, and perform related cardiac diagnostic procedures as assigned.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing diagnostic echocardiographic examinations; obtaining diagnostic ultrasonic images of the heart and related structures using two-dimensional (2D), M-mode, and Doppler ultrasound techniques; and identifying and documenting abnormal cardiac anatomy or function for physician interpretation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
