What you'd do
This position is located in the Office of Safety and Occupational Health within Business Operations, Washington Office, USDA Forest Service. The incumbent serves as the national manager for emergency management services for the agency. Major duties
Serves as the National Emergency Management Program Manager, providing guidance, direction, policy and advice to agency personnel. Provides leadership and direction to team members in the development and achievement of new concepts and capabilities, especially as they relate emergency management. Assists field units in the development and practice of natural disaster preparedness planning, training, and response. Establishes mechanisms to evaluate effectiveness of service and ensures consistency with Forest Service policy. Develops and implements long-range objectives and requirements of emergency management for the agency.

Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-14 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as 3 or more of the following: Planning and/or directing the administrative and functional aspects of a National Emergency Management and Continuity of Operations Program (COOP). Developing and implementing action plans through the full operational phase during incidents and emergency situations nationwide. Developing and/or interpreting guidelines, broad policies, regulations, and directives. Promoted a positive work environment free of discrimination and harassment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
