Maintenance Mechanic Leader

These three positions are located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Division of Maintenance and Construction. Sequoia National Park- Ash Mountain 1 Vacancy - Permanent Fulltime (year-round) Sequioa National Park - Lodge Pole 1 Vacancy - Career-Seasonal (see "Duties" section for more information about Career-Seasonal appointments) Kings Canyon National Park - Grant Grove 1 Vacancy - Permenant Fulltime (year-round).
Major duties
At the full performance level (WL-09) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Organizes and assigns work, sets priorities on routine and/or special projects, inspects work, assures all work meets applicable codes, standards, and regulations. Works with staff, sets the pace of the work, reviews daily work reports, and develops plans, specifications and detailed cost estimates for interior and exterior maintenance of park facilities including preservation maintenance and renovations to historic structures and other cultural resources. Assists with the preparation of procurement documents and makes direct purchases of supplies and materials required for the work. Directly performs non-supervisory work in a variety of trades related to the construction, maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities including principally: carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, roofing, electrical. Career-Seasonal Information: The Sequoia - Lodgepole position is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 pay periods per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 48 weeks per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is February to December, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

Requirements Continued... As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Lead Or Supervise (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
