About the Position: Serves as a Public Safety Telecommunicator (Office Automation) for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responder for Fort Bragg Directorate of Emergency Services. Major duties

Provide emergency services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Provide initial incident command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene. Identify nature of emergency, level of response required based on local protocols, and provide any additional information to the responding units. Monitor computerized fire alarm system and other alarm systems such as Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (ICIDS) alarm systems. Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response. Operate Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, telephones, radios, and station alert systems. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management. Specialized Experience required at the GS-05 level: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) assisting with obtaining basic information from callers in a centralized public safety communications center; and 2) entering routine incident information into an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). -OR- Education: Four years education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (NOTE: Must provide transcripts). -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience required at the GS-06 level: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls within a centralized public safety communications center using established procedures; 2) operating emergency communications and computer-aided dispatch equipment to assist with dispatching public safety resources; and 3) relaying incident updates to callers and/or responding public safety personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5). Specialized Experience required at the GS-07 level: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) answering emergency and non-emergency calls within a centralized public safety communications center; 2) determining the level of emergency to dispatch appropriate police, fire or emergency medical assets using computer-aided dispatch capabilities; and 3) assisting with performing crisis intervention with distraught callers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: In addition to the requirements above, this position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
