RIGGER WORKER
What you'd do
You will serve as a RIGGER WORKER in the TRANSPORTATION DIVISION of NAVAL STATION PEARL HARBOR, HI.
Major duties
You will estimate weights and centers of gravity of loads to be moved. You will devise means of moving and controlling movements of heavy equipment in open areas and in unconfined spaces. You will splice wire and fiber ropes, install thimbles, swivels, rings, hooks, shackles, turnbuckles, and other fittings. You will comply with all environmental, safety, security and administrative requirements. You will install mooring lines on ships and service craft. You will manufacture various wire and fiber rope items, such as nets, ladders, boat falls, lifting grips, towing gear, salvage gear, mast stays, and halyards. You will plan route and load maneuvering.
What you need to qualify
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF RIGGER WORKER WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION as demonstrated by 1) Operating forklifts and other motorized mobile equipment; 2) Laying out and installing lines and tackle in support of rigging requirements; 3) Estimating weight of loads and attaching lifting gear; and 4) Complying with rigging related safety standards.
