To serve as the supervisory meteorological technician of the Base Weather Station, incumbent plans, manages, and directs the operations of the weather station and is responsible for all weather services provided to units on March ARB.

Major duties

Performs first level supervisory personnel management responsibilities Plans, organizes, directs, and oversees program and resource management activities Participates in, performs, and/or directs special studies/projects that impact the unit, squadron, and/or serviced organizations and agencies Prepares and delivers oral presentations such as briefings, consultations, and strategy sessions with other staff service functions and activities to secure cooperation, resolve controversial matters, and convey information relative to proposed changes in assignments

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation; Observing and recording atmospheric characteristics, i.e., temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types; Decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere, i.e., charts, diagrams, cross sections; Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, adjusting, and verifying atmospheric and other meteorological data to confirm and improve accuracy and efficacy. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Meteorology including a wide range of meteorological methods, techniques, and practices, as well as weather observing, forecasting, communications, meteorological equipment, and support procedures. Practical knowledge of training concepts, practices, and techniques, materials development, test and measurement, and training resources. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to conduct comprehensive studies, and prepare solutions to resolve problems concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of work operations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; present formal and informal briefings; coordinate complex issues; and maintain good working relationships. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of a staff. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
