What you'd do

The Division of Examinations is seeking a Supervisory Attorney Adviser, SK-0905-15 in the Technology Controls Program (TCP) and will be located in one of the following locations: Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA or Washington, DC. As a Branch Chief, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for conducting examinations of entities subject to Regulation Systems Compliance and Integrity (SCI).

Major duties

The mission of the Division of Examinations is to protect investors, ensure market integrity and support responsible capital formation through risk-focused strategies that: (1) improve compliance; (2) prevent fraud; (3) monitor risk; and (4) inform policy. The results of the Division's examinations are used by the SEC to inform rule-making initiatives, identify and monitor risks, improve industry practices and pursue misconduct. If selected, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for supporting EXAMS' mission to conduct and coordinate technology focused examinations of Commission registrants. In this role as a Branch Chief, you will be responsible for: Supervising and managing staff within the Branch including providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit; Supervising the planning and conducting of IT security audits of financial industry participants; Providing expert advice and guidance on broad projects and programs with national impact related to the SEC's Technology Controls Program; and Providing authoritative guidance related to the regulations governing securities industry IT governance and security programs.

What you need to qualify

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement. SK-15: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-13 level. Specialized experience includes: Providing legal advice on issues related to the rules and policies of Federal securities laws and acts relating to self-regulatory exchanges, broker-dealers, or investment advisers; AND Developing recommendations and/or reports of findings while interacting with executive management, co-workers, and members of the securities industry to resolve issues; AND Leading a team that is responsible for deploying, supporting, or auditing technology solutions employed in the securities market. ACCOMPLISHMENT RECORD COMPETENCIES: Your Accomplishment Record narratives should address the following competencies. See the How You Will Be Evaluated section below for more information: Competency 1: Information Gathering: Ability to gather and process large amounts of information and make connections to understand possible deficiencies. Competency 2: Technology Expertise: Knowledge of the principles and methods of specialized technologies, tools, and delivery systems, including security, risk management, governance, functionality, and user interface in area of expertise (e.g., programming languages, server, web, applications, network). Competency 3:Teamwork and Collaboration: Interacts with internal and external others in a manner that advances examinations and SEC goals and objectives. Competency 4: Program Management: Ability to develop and execute programs to deliver results that efficiently and effectively meet SEC's mission, strategic plan and goals, with little or no guidance.
