Major duties

You will perform technical support for the research, development and manufacturing of energetic materials and related systems. You will support inter-divisional and interdepartmental efforts regarding the design, fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of production systems and equipment used to manufacture and test energetic materials. You will provide quasi-professional engineering work of a technical nature for the department and branch of moderately complex equipment utilizing vacuum, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, electronic, and mechanical components. You will provide cost estimates on potential upgrades and system improvements for both labor and materials required. You will perform inspections, preventative maintenance, calibrations and troubleshooting of a wide range and diversity of electronic equipment. You will assist equipment technical engineering staff with reviews, requirements, modifications, and repairs of production equipment. You will lead teams with electrical/electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and modification. You will provide design data, references and other pertinent information and advice to engineers and technicians and assist investigation teams with determining causal factors. You will train junior technicians and mechanics on set up and operation of equipment used to process chemicals and energetic materials. You will be responsible for technical oversight and providing direction of lower grade technicians and trade personnel assigned to their projects.

What you need to qualify

For the NT-03: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-02 (GS-05/08) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing technical support for the research, development and manufacturing of energetic materials and related systems. For the NT-04: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 (GS-09/10) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing technical oversight and direction of lower grade technicians to execute technical support for the research, development and manufacturing of energetic materials and related systems.
