Engineering Equipment Operator
What you'd do
This position is located in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, in the Facility Management Division. The primary purpose of this position is to operate gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction heavy equipment to grade surfaces to rough specifications on all types of terrain, to include mountains and steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, hilly forests, rocky ground, and other surfaces with similar rough features. Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.
Major duties
The major duties of the Engineering Equipment Operator position include, but are not limited to, the following: Operate two or more types of heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth to fine specifications on such projects as breaking new ground for trails, roads, canals, tunnels, or construction sites. Move earth on moderate slopes, grade curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, hilly forest, and other surfaces with similar rough features. Operate engineering equipment on flat and rolling terrain to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth, including roads to exact specifications. Operate equipment on steep, rocky, slick surfaces with little traction Follow established safety procedures to avoid injury and damage equipment or property

Requirements Continued... As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Operation of Motor Vehicles Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Reliability and Dependability as a Engineer Equipment Operator -AND- SELECTIVE FACTOR: Applicants MUST possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with No Air Brake restrictions and Taker endorsements (N), by the closing of this announcement. You must provide a copy of your Class A CDL with No Air Brake Restrictions and Tanker endorsements (N) with your application. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
