SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST

Major duties
You will serve as the installation subject matter expert and program manager for assigned operational, tactical, transportation, and off-duty safety programs under the general oversight of the Safety Director. You will serve as the Alternate Program Manager and provide technical support and continuity for the following occupational safety and health programs administered by the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist. You will support on-scene safety functions and formal mishap investigations by identifying contributing factors and assisting in the development of effective corrective action recommendations. You will participate in safety stand-downs, safety councils, and command-level mishap review boards as required. You will prepare and deliver formal classroom instruction, hands-on training, and safety briefings.
What you need to qualify
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing direct safety oversight to personnel during field-based training; conducting mishap investigations, supporting safety protocols for hazardous materials (ammunition/explosives) AND managing safety programs related to vehicle operations and mitigating risks associated with extreme weather conditions. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
