What you'd do

This position serves as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist for expendable (EX) assets/materials for the Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System supervising multiple supply series of consumable medical supply/inventory used in the healthcare system as well as the micro-purchase program and recognized as the Commodity Management Division's subject matter expert serving as an advisor and consultant to the Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) and Assistant CSCO.

Major duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Supply Management: responsible for the inventory management, control and distribution of expendable inventory; ensures maximum effectiveness in the management of inventories; has oversight and accountability of the management plan for the commodity program; conducts effectiveness/efficiency reviews; oversees the computation of requirements for supplies; may serve as the approving official for approving reconciled purchase card transactions; oversees the care and handling of specialized items; prepares/reviews submissions to obtain approval or funding; and acts as the central point of contact for the coordination of commodity support and the resolution of logistics problems; Returns, Recalls and Reutilization: manages federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies; approves emergent procurement decisions; participates in root cause analysis process; and serves as the utilization and disposal official for excess consumables; Supervision: supervises employees from separate but interrelated units; makes recommendations for promotions, reassignments and awards; develops position descriptions and performance standards; conducts semi-annual and annual performance reviews; assists subordinate staff with performance issues; schedules and grants leave; monitors overtime usage; resolves informal complaints and grievances; develops the ability of subordinate staff; develops individual development plans for professional growth and development; coordinates and integrates various technical units to ensure compliance; conducts on the job training and in service training; and assesses training and educational needs and implements training programs; Performs other related duties as assigned. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/04/2026. To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet one of the following: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: planning, coordinating and executing an inventory and commodity management program; establishing procedures, overseeing and reviewing physical inventories and supply reconciliations; conducting data/information analysis for acquisition planning; planning and reviewing supply/inventory processes, functions and related systems; and exercising supervisory responsibilities to include planning, assigning and evaluating work and resolving complaints. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. if related that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Posses equivalent combination of successfully completed education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. Only education in excess of a master's or equivalent graduate education may be used to qualify applicants for GS-11 level. Reasoning: Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Driver's License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Applicants are required to pass agency Government Vehicle Drivers physical examination. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your driver's license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your valid state-issued driver's license. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and is usually accomplished while seated at a desk or table, typically in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. Some standing, walking, bending and lifting (up to 40 lbs.) is required. Physical exertions including stretching, reaching and pulling or pushing cares occurs when assisting with inventories or activities involving retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
