What you'd do
About the Position: Serve as a Powered Support Systems Mechanic for the US Army Military District of Washington, The Army Aviation Brigade, 12th Aviation Battalion Maintenance Shops Division.
Major duties
Operate a variety of boom cranes, forklifts, and Class C Vehicles. Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Repair or replace parts and components of various aviation ground support equipment. Conduct training and qualifies military and civilians on ground support equipment at operator's level. Perform operational inspections, and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced and other preventive maintenance performed, as scheduled. Operate a variety of heavy lift forklifts, requiring OSHA certification for power industrial forklift.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. This includes broad experience with various types of aviation ground support equipment in order to correct equipment malfunctions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: Performs work, which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Works in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 75 pounds using jacks, hoists, or helpers. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of the crane, and from jerking and jolting motion while lifting and moving loads. Working Conditions: Most work is done inside where it is frequently noisy, drafty, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Occasionally performs repairs outside, sometimes during bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Vehicle fluids such as battery acid and hydraulic fluid may cause skin irritation or burns. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of bruises, cuts, shocks, burns, and strains. Works in noise hazard areas, requiring an annual audiometric evaluation. Exposed to the possibility of injury caused by swinging loads or from the crane overturning.
