About the Position: Serves as Health Systems Specialist (Credentials) at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia who provides support to management by analyzing, evaluating, advising and coordinating all credentials activities. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Major duties

Ensure accuracy and completeness of all data entries and enter information for all privileged providers into the automated credentials database. Review all incoming provider credentials files. Conduct primary source verification of the authenticity of the documents in the application package. Contact current and previous employers to obtain completion of Clinical Reference Questionnaires to assess provider competency. Work with providers, Department Heads, and Division officers to assist with the online privileging application process. Utilize a computer to develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets, ad hoc reports, documents, graphs and briefing slides. Assist in the development of local organization regulations, policies, briefs, circulars and pamphlets.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. For qualifications determinations your resume must contain hours worked per week and the dates of employment (i.e., hours per week and "month/year" to 'month/year" or "month/year" to "present"). If a determination is not able to be made about the length of your creditable experience for qualification requirements, you will be removed from consideration. Health System Specialist (Credentials) GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes credentialing of employees; utilize a computer to develop and maintain documents; and prepare briefings for leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
