Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT)
What you'd do
This position is located at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM, Laboratory Department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide full-performance level diagnostic imaging in computed tomography (CT). The incumbent independently performs the full range of CT procedures, monitors patient safety during contrast use, and ensures high-quality diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Major duties
GS-8: Operates advanced CT systems, performs daily quality control checks, and monitors radiation dose indices. Performs CT exams of the head, chest, abdomen, spine, and extremities Knowledge of CT cross-sectional anatomy, imaging protocols, and radiation dose monitoring. Familiarity with safe handling of contrast media under direct supervision. Involves adapting techniques for basic CT exams while working closely with higher-level staff GS-9: Performs advanced CTA exams of the head, chest, abdomen, and Multi-phase scanning protocols Complex imaging requiring adaptation for different anatomy and pathology, balancing image quality, radiation dose, and patient safety. Cross-sectional anatomy, pathology, and CT imaging techniques Explains CT procedures, applies safety protocols, adjusting imaging protocols and reconstructing images as needed for various exams
What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: Individuals employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel before January 13, 1986, may qualify based on evidence of current or satisfactory performance, or certification from a licensed practitioner authorized to prescribe radiologic procedures (such as a physician, osteopath, dentist, podiatrist, or chiropractor). Individuals first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after January 13, 1986, may qualify if they completed training or practiced in a state or foreign jurisdiction where accreditation or licensure was not available in that specialty at the time. Applicants must provide acceptable evidence of training, experience, and competency as determined by OPM or the employing agency. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-08: Operates advanced CT systems, performs daily quality control checks, and monitors radiation dose indices; performs CT exams of the head, chest, abdomen, spine, and extremities; knowledge of CT cross-sectional anatomy, imaging protocols, and radiation dose monitoring; familiarity with safe handling of contrast media under direct supervision; involves adapting techniques for basic CT exams while working closely with higher-level staff; GS-09: Performs advanced CTA exams of the head, chest, abdomen, and Multi-phase scanning protocols; complex imaging requiring adaptation for different anatomy and pathology, balancing image quality, radiation dose, and patient safety; cross-sectional anatomy, pathology, and CT imaging techniques; and explains CT procedures, applies safety protocols, adjusting imaging protocols and reconstructing images as needed for various exams Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
