What you'd do
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Cook position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center located in San Antonio, Texas.
Major duties
Prepare menu items requiring multiple steps ingredients, and preparation times for special events. Cook all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for regular and modified diet menus for entire meals. Test and evaluate new food products and recipes. Wash heavy pots, pans, dishes, trays and service ware, manually or using mechanical equipment. Perform a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties in the kitchen areas.

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to prepare food and follow recipe instructions. I can multiply ingredients in recipes and calculate how many servings a container holds. I have knowledge of special and modified diets. I can follow kitchen safety standards - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Working Conditions: Work is performed in kitchen areas that are well lighted but often hot and noisy. Employee is exposed to steam, vapors and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering and exiting walk-in refrigeration and freezing units. There in danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Employee is subject to possible cuts from knives and to burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water.
