Program Support Assistant(Work-Study Coordinator)
What you'd do
The Work Study Coordinator (WSC) for the Regional Processing Office (RPO) makes eligibility determinations and processes Work-Study claims for all education benefit programs and Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation for a multi-state jurisdiction. He/she ensures the efficiency of the Work-Study program.
Major duties
Main Duties: Provides information on application procedures and eligibility criteria to prospective Work-Study applicants. Approves the Work-Study employment sites and Position Descriptions. Reviews Work-Study applications and contracts for approval or denial. Prepares and issues Work-Study contracts and extension agreements based on enrollment periods and eligibility. Assists in cultivating Work-Study opportunities within Veterans Benefit Administration, Veteran Health Administration, the National Cemetery Administration and appropriate non-VA organizations. Acts as a liaison for the RPO with school officials and worksite supervisors. Reviews, verifies, and re-computes time records submitted for appropriate payment. Initiates development and maintains control of Work-Study claims. Processes and/or authorizes payments for Work-Study hours. Approves or disapproves continuation of Work-Study contracts in the event of reductions to less than 3⁄4 time training. Maintains the record systems for the Work-Study program. Conducts interviews in person and by telephone. Reviews agreement adjustments, including terminations, to determine compliance with the original contract. Coordinates adjustments in payments to include creation of overpayments where appropriate. Makes payment adjustments in the event a contract is not fulfilled. Assures that Work-Study students assigned at non-VA organizations have the proper supervision. Obtains, assembles, and calculates workload information. Responds to telephone inquiries from work-site supervisors and work-study students. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. The full performance level of this position is grade GS-7. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday between the hours 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM to be determined. Alternate work schedules may be available. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. The Office of Personnel Management's (OPM's) group qualification standards covering white collar occupations in the Federal competitive service can be found: Here Specialized Experience: GS-07: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the Federal, state, local, public, or private sector. Specialized experience is work experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Providing administrative support and customer service to internal and external customers in an office environment; AND Applying procedures for data entry and record keeping. Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience you document, to include volunteer experience.
