Risk Management Specialist
What you'd do
This position is located in the Risk Management Agency (RMA), Deputy Administrator for Insurance Services (DAIS), Valdosta, GA Risk Management Region which serves Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico. This position is designated as mobile work. Mobile work is a condition of employment and is characterized by routine and regular travel to conduct work in customer or other worksites as opposed to a single authorized alternative worksite.
Major duties
Responsible for providing senior level guidance, direction, and assistance on regional risk management activities within the area of responsibility for the Regional Office (RO). Serves as technical advisor to the Director with primary responsibility for providing program analysis and evaluation in direct support of the RO functions and responsibilities. Provide guidance and support to RO staff administering underwriting standards, and perform, review and re-determine actuarial and underwriting decisions made by RO staff or deliverers of crop insurance. Provide guidance to RO staff in the review and evaluation of existing and new crop programs, policies and procedures. Research and monitor crop production, farming practices and trends, to ensure RMA procedures and policies remain current with modem agricultural practices.

Specialized Experience Requirement For the GS-13 grade level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in federal service or comparable experience not gained through federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Providing technical support to staff as well as national and field offices to review agricultural programs; Using best practices in agriculture to review existing programs and ensure their integrity; Identifying and evaluating data and risks related to agricultural production; and Applying policies and procedures to maintain consistency with sound agricultural risk management strategies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade Requirement: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. You must meet this requirement by the closing date of this announcement.
