What you'd do

Positions are located in the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Office of Unemployment Insurance (OUI). OUI is responsible for providing leadership, direction, oversight, and assistance to state workforce agencies in the implementation and administration of state unemployment insurance (UI) programs, Federal unemployment compensation programs, and other wage-loss, worker dislocation and adjustment assistance compensation programs. Positions are outside the bargaining unit.

Major duties

Major duties for this position are listed below: Identifies problems, determines their nature and scope, evaluates available alternatives, and recommends appropriate courses of action. Works with clients and customers, including the public, agency employees, representatives of other Federal agencies, and organizations outside the Government, to assess needs, provide information and assistance, resolve issues, and meet service expectations. Coordinates with internal and external officials on assignments crossing organizational or geographic lines. Facilitates communication, obtains necessary information, and promotes timely completion of work. May log, monitor, and track high-level requests and correspondence received from the White House, Executive Offices, Congress, and State and local government officials to ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate responses. Monitors suspense dates and coordinates with responsible staff to ensure completion. Advises staff and stakeholders on technical and procedural matters related to assigned program functions and office operations. Uses effective oral communication to respond to inquiries, advise and consult with customers, explain technical information, and present recommendations to management and other officials. Assists executive leadership and key staff in management planning, policy development, and decision-making sessions. Provides analysis of issues, goals, and initiatives and recommends options for consideration by management. Expedites priority projects and assignments of a sensitive, urgent, or high-visibility nature. Assists in developing action plans, milestones, and strategies for completing such assignments. Develops, revises, and refines operating procedures and program requirements to improve the effectiveness of office operations and administrative processes. Ensures recommendations are consistent with agency goals, regulations, and management objectives.

What you need to qualify

GS-12: Applicants must have 52 weeks of full-time specialized work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-11, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and actual experience to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Specialized experience is described below, you must meet at least four (4). (Note: Your resume must CLEARLY demonstrate this experience.) Analyzing program operations or administrative processes and providing recommendations to improve effectiveness or efficiency. Reviewing, editing, and finalizing correspondence, program guidance, or other written materials. Drafting or revising procedural guidance, policy documents, or program requirements for use by an organization or its stakeholders. Providing technical advice or guidance to management, staff, or external stakeholders on administrative or program-related matters. Planning, organizing, and monitoring projects or studies.
