What you'd do
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position operates and maintains water pumping and treating equipment used in the process of purifying water for personal consumption and industrial purposes.
Major duties
Serve as operator in charge of the sewage disposal plant. Operate and maintain water pumping and treating equipment. Perform water plant operator maintenance. Determine severity level of any issues that may occur and take appropriate action. Conduct daily, routine, basic laboratory tests that are necessary for plant operation.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Water Treatment Plant Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common duties which include duties including the operation of water pumps, checking dry feeders for pH, inspecting chlorinators, operating electric filter valves, and conducting routine laboratory tests. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Water plant operators do considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light to moderate physical effort is necessary to turn valves and controls. They frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted, and occasionally lift and carry heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside; subject to damp, odorous, and varied weather conditions for substantial amount of time; possible infection, asphyxiation, and injury from contact with sewage, and sewage gases and fumes, plant equipment and/or more severe injuries from falls into open tanks. Is exposed to chlorine gas and dusts of lime and alum which may call for protective clothing.
