This vacancy is for a GS-1670-11, Equipment Spcialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SFLC ESD SURVIVABILITY and SUSTAINMENT BR -SFLC-ESD-SSB in BALTIMORE, Maryland.
Major duties
You will serve as an Equipment Spcialist and be responsible for analyzing systems and identifying maintenance that will provide optimal system performance using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analysis and develop Maintenance Procedure Cards (MPC) for required maintenance.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Conducting RCM analysis, feasibility studies, reviewing designs and specifications for equipment, materials and methods of retrofit or installation, and developing life cycle cost estimates and life cycle information for engineering projects. Providing technical expertise on RCM programs by providing professional engineering advice to Coast Guard new cutter and boat acquisitions as well as sustainment projects. Analyzing and reviews designs, specifications and independent cost estimates for a variety of complex mechanical or electrical systems and components on vessels involving different types of mechanical, structural and electrical equipment. Reviewing system designs and documents prepared by consulting engineers for compliance with requirements and recommended revisions. Overseeing selection of appropriate candidate systems for the CG MER process, manages efforts to plan, execute, analyze results and use resulting data to effect improvements in system maintenance and ensure publishing of Maintenance Requirements Lists consistent with Reliability Centered Maintenance principles. Coordinating and conducting technical investigations, such as Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) or statistical analysis of deficiencies for systems or components and maintenance practices. What you need to qualify
To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Individual Occupational Requirements Education Undergraduate Education: Major study -- any field of study in an accredited college or university. Graduate Education :Major study -- fields related to the position to be filled. or Experience General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that provided a knowledge of the characteristics, uses, and properties of equipment. This experience may have been gained in trades or crafts, engineering technician, production control, inspection, or other work related to the specialization of the position to be filled. Technical school may be credited as general experience in accordance with the following criteria: Full-time resident study in a technical institute above the high school or trade school level on a month-for-month basis. Completion of a full 4-year curriculum in a technical or vocational high school for up to 6 months of general experience. Completion of a resident trade school course of at least 1 year in the manufacture, repair, or maintenance of equipment for up to 1 year of general experience. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Working as a skilled mechanic or maintenance worker, sales or service engineer, or planner or estimator in a technical group dealing with manufacture, utilization, repair, or operation of equipment. Reviewing and applying technical specifications and requirements. Analyzing equipment and forecasting spare parts requirements. Reading and interpreting engineering change orders, equipment requisitions, shop orders, and work orders. Analyzing contract specifications and examining pertinent equipment to determine if specifications are met. Analyzing or supervising maintenance, repair, or production operations to determine methods of improvement. Experience leading maintenance analysis, maintenance development, system failure, and projects that involve multidisciplinary teams and multiple research methods (e.g., qualitative and quantitative). Experience in written communication regarding process development, technical equipment specification, quality assurance, or repair and maintenance procedure development and execution. Experience with on-hands machinery/equipment repair and maintenance.
