Electronics Technician
What you'd do
This position is with the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), within the Directorate of Technical Support and Emergency Management (DTSEM) in the OSHA Technical Center, Engineering Division, located in Sandy, UT. The full performance level of this position is GS-11. This position is inside the bargaining unit. This position is NOT remote. Selectee will be expected to report to the office above.
Major duties
Duties for the Electronics Technician position include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists engineers in the maintenance of instrument calibration systems that provide a working standard against which field instruments will be tested and calibrated. Assists in the development of calibration procedures, recommends changes and improvements to existing procedures, which are used to evaluate the instruments accurately and identify possible deviations from OSHA inspection requirements or national standards. Determines the need and initiates requisitions for spare parts for both the safety and industrial hygiene instruments and associated calibration systems that the technician works on or with. Maintains records of work performed and prepares special reports on instrument performance as assigned. As the employee progresses, the assignments will become more difficult and complex with less supervision.

THE ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN SERIES HAS AN INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT. ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THIS REQUIREMENT IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED. You must meet the "Individual Occupational Requirements" and the "Specialized Experience" as described below, to qualify for the Electronics Technician position. INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying: Knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics. Knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance; and Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering. Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-09 or higher, to qualify for this position. Qualifying specialized experience for the GS-10 includes: Using knowledge of the science of metrology which includes: requirements for the traceability to NIST standards, methods for absolute and relative measurements and/or recognition of systemic and random error. Reading schematics with an understanding of electronic terms and symbols in order to comprehend technical literature or instrument service manuals. Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, to discuss project results, prepare reports, and/or maintain files and records. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:
