Major duties

The Director of Strength and Conditioning serves as the supervisory coach for the installation¿s strength and conditioning program. The incumbent develops training protocols and implements standardized training methodologies to improve the readiness, lethality, and resilience of total force in all domains of fitness ¿ physical, mental, spiritual, and social. The Director of Strength and Conditioning is responsible for regularly maintaining and implementing professional standards of services, and continuously regulates and ensures proper coaching methodologies, coaching standards, and education are provided to Marines and authorized users. The incumbent formulates, organizes, sets priorities, and implements a program level business plan that ensures the success of the strength and conditioning program. Facilitates program evaluation, reviews, and programmatic goals to encourage and support physical strength and conditioning. Responsible for routinely auditing strength and conditioning programs and facilities for quality assurance and advising leadership in the planning, coordination, and execution of the day-to-day strength, conditioning, and administrative operations Reviews administrative content such as briefs assessment and training outcomes provided by Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Sport and Performance Data Analyst, the incumbent is responsible for the final approval and the briefing of presentation materials to leadership communicating program information. The incumbent delivers briefs on a variety of topics consisting of a variety of details and will present briefs to supervisors, commands, and other entities as needed. Maintains strength and conditioning program visibility by advising leadership on marketing and community outreach capabilities. Conducts evaluations of services and advises leadership and commands regarding physical training programs and physical training needs to include individual participant status in attaining performance-based goals and objectives, promotes and encourages maximal participation, and assists staff by resolving programming challenges. Evaluates and tracks strength and conditioning program outcomes to improve and uses results to address barriers and recommend the implementation of other services to support Marines and patrons. Utilizes multiple resources for programming such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Strength and Conditioning software, and Athletic Performance Management Systems. Inspects the facilities routinely check to ensure sanitation, maintenance, and sustainment of strength and conditioning assets. The incumbent will provide staffing or work during Marine Corps performance-based training events - and coordinate with the WARR performance center manager to prioritize scheduled unit-based strength and conditioning activities. Works with the Director of Athletic Training to align operations and services related to injury management and reconditioning performance programming. Reviews and updates installation specific strength and conditioning practical application clinics to ensure course work focuses on improving performance in skill related to a sport or operational tasks and is evidence-based following strength and conditioning industry level standards. Develops internal training and education for strength and conditioning employees for the purpose of optimizing employee performance, program delivery, and reducing risk for injury. Represents the installation strength and conditioning program by serving on working groups or part of advisory groups, and present local installation best practices and barriers that impact program success. Implements a strength and conditioning program with a focus on safety, wellbeing, and includes a reconditioning strength and conditioning program and ensures subordinate personnel refer participants to the appropriate resources or medical provers when necessary. The incumbent assigns and reviews daily work to subordinates and ensures completion of established deadlines. Interviews and conduct technical discussions for candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotion, or reassignment to other positions. Establishes and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work. Establishes division of the workload and helps to establish long-term goals and daily action plans to meet goals associated with strength and conditioning programs. Provides direction and advice to employees assisting them with administrative tasks and programming.

What you need to qualify

Supervises employees to include assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and managing timecards, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action. Requires a valid driver's license. If located OCONUS, the incumbent must have a SOFA driver's license. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Health and Human Performance, Exercise Science, or equivalent degree, Masters Degree preferred AND 3 years of experience in exercise and sport physiology, strength and conditioning, human performance, kinesiology, physical education, or a related field. Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach from Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association or National Strength and Conditioning Association, and USAW Level I/II Preferred is required. Skill to supervise employees in the accomplishment of work. Collegiate and/or high school athletic playing experience preferred. Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of tactical strength and conditioning, and the unit readiness planning process to establish and maintain tactical fitness of individual Marines and Marine units Knowledge of strength and conditioning coaching within an interdisciplinary human performance team with a focus on developing and maintaining the health, wellness, and performance of athletic teams and/or military units. Ability to review and audit strength and conditioning programming, coaching techniques designed for large team/groups (50-100 athletes) to include pre- and post-performance testing. Practical knowledge, skill and ability to teach, demonstrate and evaluate warm-ups, speed, agility, quickness, strength, power, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, injury prevention, correctives, and recovery components of a comprehensive performance program. Knowledge and ability to counsel and recommend training guidelines and expertise to Marines and authorized patrons as necessary and ability to design periodized general physical preparation programs, or sport specific programs as needed for other authorized users such as family members. Knowledge and ability to refer participants to a medical provider or other services as necessary when evaluations or assessments prove contraindicative of exercise. Industry level knowledge on the various supporting elements within an athletic setting such as athletic trainers, applied mental skills consultants, dietitians, and sleep health coaches. Knowledge of the application of strength and conditioning coaching in support of a larger organizational component above a team such as an athletic department, military unit, or other sports and athletic organization. Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and the ability to apply them in a higher performance setting such as the military, first-responder, high school, and collegiate setting. Knowledge and ability to implement rules, guidelines, emergency procedures, and policies dictated by policy, and installation standard operating procedures. Skill in injury prevention and reconditioning program development to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants in facilities and structured programming, knowledge to refer participants to appropriate resources or medical providers when necessary. Knowledge of effective coaching technique capabilities and skills to motivate program participants and staff. Ability to build a positive team culture through clear communication, goal setting, and providing support to enhance participants¿ motivation and performance. Skill in advising on individual and unit human performance protocols, serving as a resource consultant and developer of local installation on strength and conditioning education-related matters such as practical skills clinics focusing on technique and programming. Ability to implement interpersonal skills to present, negotiate, and resolve issues and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, leadership, and other agencies and organizations.
