Custodial Worker position is located in a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) store and is responsible for performing a variety of custodial duties within the store. Read the entire announcement before starting the application process.
Major duties
Major Duties Maintains an orderly and clean specified area following general instructions regarding the tasks to be performed. Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy industrial powered equipment. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces such as rugs, walls, floors, and fixtures by use of chemicals and cleaning solutions. Washes and cleans windows inside and outside of building. Performs seasonal tasks such as the following: cuts grass, pulls weeds, and trims bushes. Picks up litter from immediate area outside of the building. Removes ice and snow from sidewalks, entrance ways, and other public pedestrian areas in and around the commissary. Assists in special preparations for displays, customer appreciation sales, holiday sales, or other promotion activities in the commissary. Read the entire job announcement. What you need to qualify
You must meet qualifications and requirements by the closing date. Per the OPM Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, how you gained the skill and/or knowledge or the length of time you have spent in this line of work is not as important as what you can do and that you have the required ability or potential to successfully perform the duties of this position. Your resume should show your specific knowledge, skill, and abilities for this position in relation to each of the elements being measured. Examples of qualifying experience: Working as a janitor in a retail, office, or warehouse environment. Uses machines (floor scrubber, power washers, and floor buffers) along with other tools (e.g. buckets, mops, cleaning cloth, cleaning solutions, squeegees) to do the job. You will receive credit for all relevant qualifying experience (paid and unpaid), including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Physical requirements: (1) Stand, stoop, kneel, bend and climb for prolonged periods. (2) Lift, push, pull, carry, and handle items weighing up to 40 pounds independently and occasionally over 40 pounds with assistance. You will attest to your ability to perform these physical requirements in the Questionnaire. Work environment: Within the commissary indoor area most of the time; occasionally must work out of doors to accomplish cleaning tasks. Is exposed to conditions inherent in cleaning task such as skin irritations and chapped hands from working with strong cleaning agents. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Indoor work areas normally have adequate heat, light and ventilation.
