This vacancy is for a WG - 4749-10,Maintenance Mechanic located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY BOSTON in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Major duties
You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic and be responsible for performing general maintenance mechanic duties at the Industrial Support Detachment. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Inspecting, repairing, cleaning and outfitting buoys and associate components. Performing welding and cutting on steel buoy components. Preparing and painting buoys, marine navigation aids, towers, battery racks, and related structures. Applying specialized marine coating systems ensuring proper mixing, thickness, texture, and finish. Preparing metal surfaces to remove rust, scale, dirt, and old coatings. Operating, fork trucks, front-end loaders and other material handling equipment.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1) Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREENOUT) 2) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) 3) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment 4) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly Installation, and Repair, etc. 5) Knowledge of Materials 6) Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise Artistic) 7) Use of Measuring Instruments National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
