What you'd do

This position is located in the DEA, Office of Forensic Sciences, Forensic Laboratories. This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as the Business Operations Specialist to provide liaison, administrative, and financial support for a forensic laboratory.

Major duties

As a your typical work assignments may include: Serving as point of contact with DEA Headquarters elements, and the day-to-day coordination and liaison activities that involve other Federal law enforcement agencies, U.S. Attorney's Office, and state and local enforcement agencies to resolve difficult and unusual problems pertaining to laboratory services. Independently performing human resources management liaison and advisory services for an organization with human resources issues of a complex or specialized nature. Developing acquisition objectives and milestones to obtain the contracted services within the timeframe demanded for the particular project. Allocating funds to individual activities/functional areas based on an analysis of activity budget estimates, historical expenditures, projected workload, and approved funding. Independently carries out significant projects and studies which may require unique requirements with expanding or limiting scope, as necessary, to meet constantly changing and increasing demands generated by internal and external customers Independently carrying out significant projects and studies which may require unique requirements with expanding or limiting scope, as necessary, to meet constantly changing and increasing demands generated by internal and external customers.

Applicants applying for the GS-12 must meet one of the following requirements: A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-11 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Reviewing and evaluating office policies and other guidance to determine need to develop new policies or modify existing policies and guidance. 2) Performing all aspects of contracting transactions for procurements that include a wide array of complex professional and technical services or products. 3) Assisting in the formulation, establishment, and monitoring of fiscal year budgets, plans, and cost estimates for the laboratory. and 4) Advising and assisting laboratory leadership on change management. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
